Bushenyi elders’ forum that brings together elders from 50 years and above from Bushenyi district have formed an association intended to fight for the rights and lobby for the elderly in the district.
The brain behind the organization is Elly Kekuruso a farmer in Bushenyi district.
The organization has formed an executive and forum of patrons of 11 members chaired by emeritus Bishop Rt. Rev. Yona Katoonene deputized by Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere.
Others members are; Ambassadors; Richard Nduhuura, Franklin Katungwe Enoch Nkuruho.
The chairman of the forum is Peter Rwakifari retired teacher and RDC while the secretary is Dr. Richard Twebaze a lecturer and founder of Ishaka vocational school and Victory girls’ school.
The treasurer is Dr. Enos Rwashema Vice chancellor Valley University of science and technology and commissioner in the ministry of education.
In an exclusive with www.mknewslink.com at Campus view restaurant next to KIU western campus, Dr. Richard Twebaze noted that they have already registered as Community based organization (CBO) and opened an account at centenary bank Ishaka branch.
One of the major objective, according to Dr. Twebaze is to start health insurance for the elderly, then build a specialized hospital dealing in diseases that disturb the elderly such as diabetes, high blood pressure, ulcers among others.
In the above interview Dr. Twebaze elaborated many objectives in their constitution which include bringing harmony among politicians as well as religious leaders, reviving culture among others.
The brain behind Bushenyi elders’ forum mzee Elly Kekuruso has always yearned to have aforum of eminent people to arbitrate and unite the people of Bushenyi district (Igara).
It was earlier done by the late Ezra Kikuri who taught president Museveni at Kyamate primary school in Ntungamo district.
During Kikuri’s time, Bushenyi was united without unnecessary conflicts such as politicians fighting one another, religious leaders fighting with Christians because he greatly advocated for unity.
What we wait to see is to witness Bushenyi elders’ forum replicating what Mzee Ezra Kikuri did.
