4 UPDF OFFICERS ACCUSED OF SHOOTING BUSHENYI RESIDENT TO APPEAR BEFORE 2ND DIVISION COURT MARTIAL NEXT WEEK

The four UPDF officers and one security guard accused of shooting and killing a man in Katikamwe parish Kyabugimbi sub county Bushenyi district will tomorrow be transferred to Mbarara for custody as they await for court martial.
The incident happened at 2300hrs in Kyabugimbi Sub County on the 10th May 2019 as a result of the scuffle between some members of the armed personnel hitherto deployed to provide security to a road construction company (MOTA – ENGIL AFRICA) Quarry site in the same area.
According to Lt.Col. Deo Akiiki the UPDF deputy spokesperson, the arrested are; RA/198922 L/Cpl Aleny Joseph – UPDF, RA/209602 Pte Oryem Albert- UPDF, AX010682 Pte Muhumuza Stephen – LDU, AX 018066 Pte Kwesiga Brown,Ojala Peter (member of G4 private Security firm).
Akiiki told www.mknewslink.com that the above persons went to Mukacence trading centre on a self deployment to enforce a curfew with intentions of extorting wainainchi who were violating the curfew rules.
He narrated that those who were drinking fought back, forcing LDU AX 010682 Pte Muhumuza Steven to shoot Mr Tumuheirwe Vincent (now the late) into the thigh. He later died of over bleeding.
The Brigade Commander of 309 Brigade Lt Col James Kasule swang into action and arrested all the suspects including those from a private security firm G4. They were all handed over to Bushenyi Police Station as investigations continue.
The UPDF fraternity condemns this act of lawlessness on the part of the individual personnel involved and commiserates with the family of Tumuheirwe Vincent.
Akiiki assured that the institution will ensure justice is served adding that UPDF would like to also make it categorically clear that no members of the construction Company (MOTA ENGIL- AFRICA) was involved in this scuffle but rather members of the security who were deployed at the site.
