40 criminal cases were read to the accused during yesterday’s afternoon session that was led Joyce Kavuma the Mbarara resident judge in greater Bushenyi high court.
Different cases that included 17 murders, 11 aggreviated robberies, 11 aggreviated defilements, and one rape from districts of Mitooma, Bushenyi, Buhweju, Rubirizi and Sheema were presented in the high court in its first session since this year began.
Opening this year’s high court hearings in Bushenyi, justice Kavuma called upon the local government to lobby and set up remand homes as a way of reducing overcrowding in prisons.
Kavuma noted that those sent on remand can be kept in such homes instead of putting them in prisons with the rest.
She added that all the stakeholders in the justice of Bushenyi should work as a team if justice and rule of law is to be promoted.
