At least 24 countries have registered to participate in the 3rd Edition of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival slated for August 24, 2024 in Kasese town.
The revelation was made last evening by Mr. Charles Mugisa Police, the Kasese District Chairperson for Rwenzori Theluji Festival while meeting news reporters from different media houses at Virina Gardens in kasese Town.
Mr. Mugisa noted that among other countries, the United Kingdom, Germany, USA, Sweden, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan have officially registered to participate in the festival.
He used the same platform to announce some of the activities to be performed before the International Marathon. They include Community Bio-diversity Run slated for Saturday 20, 2024 at sub-county levels across the district.
According to him, the winners at the sub-county levels would be brought together to form the district team which is expected to compete with the National and International Runners who will have come to participate in the marathon.
He appealed to the community members to prepare for the event through engaging themselves in businesses that are friendly to the event.
Commenting about last two year’s editions, Mugisa explained that in the first year, they registered about 800 participants while last year, the number increased to 2,700, adding that this year, they expect 4,000 runners.
Mr. Kenneth Muhindo, the Public Relations Officer for Kasese Municipality Sports’ Association, told our reporter that as the association, they were ready to mobilize the population to prepare for the event fully so that they too become among the runners that would be rewarded.
