47 PASSENGERS ARRESTED IN KABALE HEADING TO KISORO

47 passengers were yesterday arrested in Kabale district for defying president Yoweri Museveni’s ban on public transport.                                                                         The ban was announced on wednesday evening as one of the measures to control the spread of covid -19, a pandemic that has killed more than 20,000 people across the world in recent weeks.
Uganda has so far recorded 14 cases of people battling the disease.
Yesterday afternoon, the police arrested 24 Ugandans and 23 nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who were travelling in a horizon bus registration number UAM 895-H heading to Kisoro from Kampala. they were intercepted in Kabale.
Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, said that the bus is suspected to have left Kampala at night at around 10 p.m., hours after the ban was announced. all individuals in the bus were subjected to a temperature checkup and later taken to Kabale central police station.
He added that security and health authorities are still consulting on whether the suspects should be quarantined since some of them were planning on cross to drc in disregard of yet another presidential directive of closing all borders.
He called upon members of the public to a bide by the president’s directive on public transport because it is a preventive measure against covid-19.
