6 KASHENSHERO SACCO EMPLOYEES INDICTED FOR STEALING SHS.354M

Six employees of Kashenshero Sacco in Mitooma district have been indicted in a more than Shs.354M theft scandal.
It is alleged that they stole the money by compromising the Sacco auditors under the leadership of Fred Bikorwa, the former chairman board.
The scam came to the light when the Sacco got a new Chairman Board Tugambagye Benon Mugisha triggering an audit which exposed that Shs. 354,100,754 was embezzled between 2016 and 2019
Two of the accused; Eric Byamukama, the Sacco accountant and Henry Mugabi, the Sacco loans manager have been in custody at Kashenshero police station in Mitooma district since March 16th on charges of fraud, theft of money and conspiracy to defraud.
It was discovered that Byamukama used his position to steal Shs. 147,705,410 while Mugabi used his position as the loans manger to steal Shs. 44,967,132.
The other four involved are; Apollo Barekye, the Ass. Loans manager accused of taking Shs. 13, 721,200, Kakiga Geofrey, the Sacco manager accused of taking 85,959,232, Betty Beingana, the cashier and wife to Byamukama accused of taking 55,709,380 and Immaculate Naruhuka who was handling the Sacco mobile money accused of embezzling Shs. 8,365,000.
According to a source, the four other accused have started refunding the money since last Saturday 16th March 2019 after investigators disclosed the allegations against them.
Kashenshero Sacco which started nine years ago has a total of 1,260 members.
