756 BUSHENYI WOMEN, GIRLS GRADUATE IN VOCATIONAL SKILLS; PROMISED 1M STARTING CAPITAL EACH

President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday, 25 presided over the graduation of 756 students who completed a two-month women and youth empowerment skills training in Bushenyi District.
The training, facilitated by Bushenyi Woman MP and Minister for General Duties in Prime Minister’s Office, Canon Mary Karooro Okurut.
120 students graduated for skills in catering and hotel management, 350 in fashion and design, 315 in tailoring, 280 in salon and hair dressing, 90 in knitting, 39 in liquid soap making, and 38 in sanitary pads making.
Speaking at Bushenyi playground in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality, President Museveni said that since 1995, government has initiated poverty eradication programmes but some leaders have argued that they have not performed well due to lack of skills noting that it’s why the government introduced Skilling Uganda.
Museveni through Minister Karooro pledged one million shillings to each graduate as a starting capital.
He commended Karooro for supplementing government efforts saying she is helping eradicate poverty by imparting skills and creating employment.
However, he advised that skills given to students should mainly be around import substitution and export promotion
Minister Mary Karoro Okurut commended the President for the support and development in the district.
She revealed that the initiative is intended to help the people, especially the youth, to address unemployment and fighting poverty in the district.
Karooro pledged that through her foundation the Karoro okurut foundation will also train Male youth with skills effective with October this year and training skills centers in every sub county.
