MASINDI DISTRICT OFFICIALS ORDERED TO REFUND EXTORTED MONEY

Masindi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), John Nyakahuma has ordered three district officials to refund the money they allegedly received from group members in the district.
They include: Denis Musinguzi, the District Records Officer, Vincent Busiinge, the former acting District Community Development Officer and her secretary, Monica Katusiime.
The officials reportedly solicited for 352,000 shillings from 10 savings groups from Pakanyi Sub-county in order to help them get money from the Prime Ministers office but never received the money. This prompted them to storm the CAOs office this morning.
In the meeting of implicated officials with the group members convened by the CAO at the district council chambers later, Gino Jangeya, the coordinator of the group accused Musinguzi of allegedly taking 20,000 shillings from each group for purportedly processing Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) for the groups.
Jangeya also claimed that Busiinge used to ask for money from the group members to process their files while Katusiime received 132,000 shillings from the group members to allow them meet Busiinge.
However, the CAO revealed that TIN was not a requirement for the groups to access the money by the groups and that no one is supposed to pay money to be served by a civil servant.
Nyakahuma noted the officials spoiled the image of government before ordering them to refund the money as they wait for more punishments from him.
Musinguzi and Katusiime confessed to getting the money from the groups but denied soliciting it from their members. However, they promised to refund it soon.
Busiinge denied the accusations against him despite one member insisting that he gave him 10,000 shillings. However, he promised to refund the money although he had not done it at the time of filing this story.
However Nyakahuma blamed the delay by the district to release the money to the groups on the lengthy process under the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) but assured the groups that their money will be on their accounts next week.
