KABALE MUNICIPALITY AUTHORITIES,RESIDENTS FIGHT OVER TREES

Local leaders from Kirigime ward Kabale Municipality have opposed the decision by the Municipal Authorities to stop them from cutting the trees located on a public land in Rushambya cell.
The trees in question are located in Rushambya cell, Kirigime wardon a one and half acres of land were locals say that they planted them 40 years ago for future developments and conserve the environment in Kirigime ward.
On Saturday, police on orders of Municipal authorities stopped locals from cutting down the trees saying that they had no Authority from Municipal council.
According to Rushambya LC 1 Chairperson Jimmy Besigye, the cutting of the trees followed several complaints from residents neighboring the trees fearing that at one time may hit their house. Besigye wondered how the Municipal council can come to stop them from cutting the trees yet they are the ones who planted them.
The Kirigime LC2 Chairperson Salim Hamis Salongo said that they need a clear explanation from Municipal council as to why they stopped them from cutting trees.
The Kabale Municipal Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha said that although the trees were planted by locals, they should follow the right procedures or present evidence to indicate that the trees belong to them.
