KABALE LEADERS WORRIED OVER INCREASED CASES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Leaders in Kabale have expressed concern over increasing cases of domestic violence in the district.

Edmond Ntimba the district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer revealed that Kabale central police station has since January this year registered 233 cases of domestic violence , majority of which were reported by women and children.

20 of these cases he said were reported by men, and that out of the 233 cases, only 55 have been solved.

These cases, according to the Deputy CAO, badly affected the lives of 70 girls and 66 boys.

Ntimba was on Tuesday speaking at the flagging off of members of the Kigezi Women In Development (KWID) who are campaigning against acts of gender violence among women.

Florence Tumuheirwe the Executive Director KWID asked government to put in place stringent laws to punish people who abuse their family members.

The 16 days of activism campaign against gender based violence which started on 25th November 2018 under the theme; Hear me to end violence against women and girls. will end on 10th December, 2018.
