Kabwohe taxi drivers and tenderers yesterday resumed their longstanding conflicts over taxes.
In a meeting that took place in Sheema stadium in Kabwohe town on Saturday 8th December chaired by the Sheema district RDC Kyereere Frank, taxi drivers accuse tenderers of forcing them to pay illegal taxes.
Drivers alleged that tenderers who include Muhwezi Edson, Karuhanga Julius, Kakyaanga Arthur, Swaibu Kande and coleb have been charging each driver 2000 daily. It is alleged that they have been using illegal receipts since they do not have an authorised stamp.
The RDC ordered the tenderers to stop taxing drivers noting that President Y K Museveni removed those taxes.
He again asked taxi drivers to also stop collecting money from themselves as they have been doing but to first register their association or cooperative to the municipal council.
Tusiime Bulasiyo Kayihura Nkuba the chairman Kabwohe taxi drivers thanked the president for removing those taxes and asked the government to handle such tenderers with an iron hand.
