BUNYORO UNION TO GET 5 BILLION SHILLINGS COMPENSATION

Bunyoro Growers Cooperative Union is to receive 5.2 billion as war claim to compensate for the loss of their property during the bush war since 1986.
The demand has taken over 30 years. According to Philemon Bagada, the Chairperson of Bunyoro growers Cooperative Grower’s Union, they lost over 500 cows, a lorry, four tractors and one pick up during the war.
George Kiiza Munina, the then Manager of Bunyoro Cooperative Grower’s Union Ranch, said that in 1985 National Resistance Army-NRA soldiers looted cattle from the ranch and also destroyed several property.
He also said that the soldiers used their vehicles to carry guns and other ammunition they had captured from Masindi Artillery barracks to wherever it was needed.
Barnabas Barugahara,the secretary Manager of the union said that the Union had valuated 970 million shillings adding that later on the verification team from Ministry of trade advised them to follow the current price. He added that when they followed the current price, they came up with 4billion Ugandan shillings as their claim.
He added that when the verification team from the Ministry of trade came on ground they revised it to 5.2 billion following the current price noting that they are now waiting to be paid.
Barugahara said that the Minister of finance promised to consider them in the coming finical year.
