In Kabale
The major entry point to Uganda from Rwanda Katuna town council in Kabale district is choking on uncollected garbage.
According to the residents, the town council authorities have spent almost four month without collecting garbage from the garbage centers and this has prompted some locals to dispose off garbage in the roads, drainage channels and open spaces.
The garbage is mainly plastic waste, polythene bags and banana peelings among others.
Jane Ampeire, a businessman at Katuna boarder said that the authorities are not bothered about the rotting garbage in the town council. She said that the town council authorities only become tough when it comes to collecting dues.
Isaac Bisharara, another concerned resident said that the poor hygiene in the town council is not only a challenge to the health of the locals but also it portrays a bad image for Uganda especially for those entering through the Katuna border.
The Katuna Town Council town clerk, Eric Sunday said that they have already started collecting garbage in the town council. He however asked the locals to avoid littering garbage everywhere instead use dustbins.
