As the staff strike at Mbarara University of Science and Technology continues to bite, the Mbarara District Security Committee led by RDC Lt. Col James Mwesigye have held a crisis security meeting to forge a way forward to end the impasse at the institution.
The meeting came after some students stormed the office of the RDC yesterday, in a peaceful procession seeking intervention on why they are not being taught and whether they are going to sit for their end of semester exams slated for May 13, 2019.
The closed door security meeting was attended by the DPC Mbarara, Gad Murungi, Collins Kaganzi the Field Force Unit (FFU) Commander, LCV Chairman Capt John Bosco Bamuturaki, Deputy RDC Emmy Katera and RDC Lt. Col James Mwesigye.
However Emmy Katera told media that they agreed to hold a meeting with the MUST student leaders and members of the university council to forge a way forward.
Robert Mushabe who incited yesterday’s peaceful demonstration told www.mknewslink.com that students are left in the shadow of what is the next plan for the university as Lecture rooms have been locked since 3rd may following the staff’s sit down strike protesting over the misconduct and abuse of office by the university vice chancellor prof Celestine Obua.
