President YK Museveni is set to commission a multi-billion road project in Hoima town ahead of ongoing regional tours to Bunyoro.
“I will be in Bunyoro sub-region tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday as the second stop of my regional wealth creation drive that started last week in Tooro. With the most infrastructures in place now, our focus must shift to eradicating household poverty,” the President posted on his social media on Monday evening.
The roads constructed under the World Bank-funded Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Project have turned the once muddy and dusty Hoima town into one of the beautiful towns in Uganda. Residents there say the town now fits its proposed Oil City status.
The UGX31b project has seen the town well lit, the drainage system improved and traffic lights installed to deal with the ever-increasing traffic on the beautified roads. Four Kilometers of roads were tarmacked under the first phase of the project.
Hoima Municipality, granted in 2010, ranked second best in implementation of the World Bank project and it qualified for more funding of Sh14 billion. The project was implemented in the other 14 Municipalities in Uganda.
Hoima Municipality Mayor Mary Grace Mugasa has commended the NRM government under the leadership of President Museveni for steering development in the Municipality through the USMID Project.
“We are blessed that government values us as Hoima because our Municipality was not among the first beneficiary Municipalities but we were later considered and our town is looking better now,” she said.
According to the program seen by Kampala Post, the President commissioned roads on (Tuesday) morning and later addressed a rally. He is to continue to Masindi today 15th may 2019, where he is scheduled to attend a thanksgiving ceremony for the Woman MP Jalia Bintu Lukumu and later address a rally.
