The speaker of Mbarara municipal council Bonny Tashobya has for the second time adjourned the council seating, in which the 2019/ 2020 budget was meant to be passed.
This follows an attendance boycott from the councilors who sighted issues of accountability and corruption within the executive.
The speaker has adjourned the council up to 29th May, and warned that if the councilors fail to turn up again, nothing will be left but to follow the law and call the ministry of local government for intervention and forge a way forward.
However, this attracted the attention of other area leaders like the district chairperson JB Bamuturaki Tumusiime and the Municipality legislator Michael Tusiime who convened a crisis meeting with the councilors and the executive, at Mbarara sports club.
Speaking to our reporter after the meeting the two leaders said councilors’ complaints are valid, and they need to be tackled.
Councilors accuse the executive of failure to implement council resolutions, saying that, they cannot pass the new financial year budget without the concluding year budget performance report.
