STUDENT DROWNS IN POND IN NTUNGAMO

Emmanuel Nuwamanya a senior four student at Muntuyera High school-Kitunga died after drowning in a pond where he had gone to swim
after escaping from school.

The deceased had reportedly escaped from school with friends and went
swimming in a pond found in a Farm that belongs to a school neighbor identified as Yonah Kanyomozi.

The student reportedly left the school premises at around 5:20 pm and
left for swimming with yet to be identified fellow students who after realized that he had drowned and alerted school neighbors who
informed the school administration.

The school authorities moved in with volunteer fishermen from Lake
Nyabihooko but could not save him and instead were able to retrieve
his lifeless body after about an hour.

Joseph Twine Muganga the school head teacher confirmed the incident
saying that the police are working closely with the school as investigations on ongoing.

The deceased’s body was taken to Rwashamaire health center IV for
a post mortem.

Ntungamo district education officer Odo Arigye describes the incident
as unfortunate, and cautioned students to desist from the practice of
escaping from school saying that it is hard for their safety to be
guaranteed.
