KITABI PARISH SET TO MARK 100 YEARS, MUSEVENI EXPECTED

Preparations are
underway at Kitabi Parish in Mbarara archdiocese ahead of centenary
celebrations due on Saturday 29th June 2019 this week.
Celebrations are set to be held at Kitabi grounds outside St. Peter church and
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the main celebrant.
The celebrations will be held under the theme “You are Peter and on this rock, I will build my church” picked from Mathew chapter 16 verse 18.
At the cerebration ground, a number of activities like renovations, bush clearing and construction of podium for the guests who will turn up are in high gear.
Addressing a press conference today morning 25th june, Bazil Kandyomunda, the head of publicity has said that in 1919, Missionaries decided to stay in Bushenyi district and set up the first church in Kitabi currently known as Kitabi parish.
Rev. Fr. Robert Kakuru, the Kitabi parish priest has said that what started as small church has so far given birth to more than 18 parishes of Kashekuro, Mushanga, Nyakishojwa, Bitooma, Nyakibale, St. Kagwa, Bubangizi, Kyamuhunga and among other parishes.
He added that in 100 years, a lot has been achieved like, construction of schools, health centers and spiritual achievements.
Fr. Kakuru said that he is excited about the celebrations and thanked Christians who have shown positive response by taking part in the preparations and believes that the celebrations will be colorful.
Aloysius Barugahare, the chairman central committee mandated to plan and implement said that there will be the presence of security, and medical personnel aimed at preventing any possible attack on the innocent Christians who will turn up for the celebrations.
The celebrations will also be used to raise more funds for the purchase of 300 seats of the new renovated church that is designed to sit 1500 Christians.
The construction works has taken Shs.2bn.
