MASINDI: DISTRICT COUNCILOR WITHDRAWS HER SIGNATURE ON PETITION TO IMPEACH LCV BOSS

One of the 13 Masindi district councilors who petitioned the district speaker seeking to impeach the district chairman Cosmas Byaruhanga has withdrawn her signature and apologized to the district council and chairperson.

Gladys Matwarwa, the female councilor for Pakanyi sub county in letter to the speaker dated 16^th this month claimed that she was coerced to sign the petition by the Resident District commissioner (RDC) and the minister for Bunyoro affairs Earnest Kiiza.

In the letter Matwarwa said that when she was called by the RDC, she thought he wanted to handle her land dispute case only to be told to sign the petition which she allegedly signed against her will for fear of  a shaming  the minister and RDC.

Matwara added that she had no intentions of fighting the district chairperson who she said had done nothing wrong. She also apologized to her electorate for singing on the petition and promised to continue serving them.

The district speaker Moses Kiirya acknowledged receiving Matwarwa’s letter adding that it was Matwara’s right to withdraw her signature from the petition

However, RDC Nyakahuma dismissed Matwara’s claims as false and malice aimed at tarnishing and character assassinating his name and office.

Nyakahuma said that the petition to impeach Byaruhanga was developed by the councilors who want to impeach the chairperson without the knowledge and the input of him and that of his office.

When contacted Minister Kiiza also demised Matwara’s   allegations saying he does not known her and had never met her until yesterday during re conciliatory meeting with the district chairperson that aborted.

He also wondered how he coerced  Matwara to sign the petition.

Matwara and 12 other councilors petitioned the district speaking seeking to impeach the district chairperson over alleged incompetence, abuse of office, breeding hatred in the district and failing to implement council resolutions among other grounds.

However the petition was rejected by the speaker on procedural grounds.

Matwara’s apology comes at a time two of the councilors who signed the petition are facing pressure from their electorate for their actions. They are Bony Kiirya from Nyangahya and Olive Grace Kunihira of Karujubu divisions.
