As journalists marked world press freedom day world over, journalists have been called upon to work together in unity so as to harmonize their ethical works.
These and more were said by the managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Co-operation Dr. Eng.Silver Mugisha while speaking as a chief guest at a function organized by Greater Bushenyi journalists under their umbrella organization [BUJOMA] Bushenyi Journalists and Media association as they celebrated world press freedom day at Ankole Resort Hotel in Bushenyi town last evening.
At the same function several individuals, media moguls, institutions and others were awarded certificates for their efforts in ensuring development in greater Bushenyi.
www.mknewslink.com news website was awarded as the best news website in greater western Uganda. Dr. Silver Mugisha MD National water and sewerage corporation handed over the award to the managing director of the website Mr. Wilber Muhwezi-Kasibante at color full function.
www.mknewslink.com news website is the first news website based upcountry in the whole of Uganda. According to the managing director and sole owner, Mr Muhwezi, the online business is hard because most of the sites have of recent been started in the region but have closed after a few months of inception. About five have closed only this year.
He added that mknewslink.com started on Sept 20, 2013 and was launched on its 2nd birthday in 2015 at crane Resort Hotel in Ishaka by the then minister of Health Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye.
Mr. Muhwezi noted that the company employs ten staff. Three are based at the headquarters in Bushenyi town and seven who are reporters are based in different districts in greater western Uganda.
He also said that the main reason of starting this news website based upcountry is to bring online information to the districts in western Uganda to appreciate the digital revolution.
He revealed that in next six years, online news papers will force out of market print news papers. “Currently print media is strongly affected by online news. News paper sales have greatly dropped because of online news papers and social media. The way to go is to read the news online because its cheap. One doesnot need to move places to look for news papers , it’s a matter of buying internet bundles and use a phone to enjoy free news” Mr. said in an interview after the function.
Mr. Kakonge Lee Appolo CEO WASCOF, Deo Musiba, Sister Ephrance Nuwamanya of BIRD, Bushenyi district Deputy speaker Annet Tibemanya, FDC’S Paul Kahiigi were also awarded for good performance in different categories
