149 RUKUNGIRI RESIDENTS TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR DEFYING COVID 19 LOCK DOWN DIRECTIVES

Police in Rukungiri are holding 149 people for defying presidential directives on fighting against the spread of Corona virus in the district.
Some of the arrested were picked from different trading centers by the police during night patrols and others were found operating bar businesses.
Rukungiri District Police Commander Moses Nanoka said that they started arresting these people as they were trying to implement presidential directive on curfew and other illegal activities.
Nanoka told our reporter that they were arrested from trading centers of Buyanja in Buyanja town council, Kasoroza and Kahoko both in Nyakagyeme sub- County, Kebisoni in Kebisoni town council, Go down in Ruhinda sub- County among others.
“We started arresting them from the beginning of the lock down up to now, some have been granted bills and others are now in prisons awaiting courts of laws for hearing of their cases,”Nanoka revealed.
Dan Kaguta, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner said that the arrested will be taken to courts and be charged with attempted murder.
The arrested are cyclists, sex workers; local people and bar operators who were arrested by a team of police officers led by the district police field officer Benon walubo.
