LIMIT CHILDREN EXPOSURE ON SOCIAL MEDIA, TELEVISION—BUSHENYI DISTRICT PROBATION OFFICER
By Domisiano Ayebare
In Bushenyi—
As we count 100 days of the lock down in Uganda, social media and Television have been cited as the leading factor on child moral decay, due to lack of supervision and proper regulation by parents.
Faith Amanya Betega, the Bushenyi district probation and social welfare officer while speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter on Tuesday at her office in Bushenyi, appealed to parents regulate and limit children social media exposure and television timing.
She says that children have adopted a lot of evil deeds from social media and television during this lock down and attributed this to negligence by parents.
She added that cases of defilement, incest and other forms of child abuse are on a rampage and this has created a vacuum in families leading to rampant cases of gender based violence in the district. She says that her office receives over six gender based cases daily which according to her is worrying.
She thus called upon parents to always sit and harmonize family issues to avoid violence that may lead to family break ups and death to some extent.
She also advised children to concentrate on domestic chores and do away with social media and Television.
