NTUNGAMO DISTRICT PARTNERS WITH UNICEF TO TRAIN VHTS ON COVID 19

Ntungamo district with the support from UNICEF has embarked on training Village Health Teams on any information concerning COVID 19 pandemic.
The district targets to train all the 1947 VHTs in the district who are implement the program of treating childhood illness at community level like malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea.
According to Nesterio Twesigye the Ntungamo District Health educator, the training will be conducted in all the 41 health facilities in the district by the health workers with experience and skills to engage VHTs.
He added that the main objective of the training is to equip VHTs who manage common childhood illness at community level with information about COVID 19 so as to strengthen the district health system.
Twesigye told www.mknewslink.com the trained VHTs will be able to have skills of putting in place the standard operating procedures like ensuring social distance ,hand washing with soap and running water and wearing of face masks while in public.
He noted that at the end of the training the VHTs will be able to detect any suspected COVID 19 case at community level and report it in time to the district relevant authorities.
The training which started on 8 July 2020 will have been conducted in all 41 health units in the district by 15 July 2020.
