In Mbarara—
The long waited struggle of Mbarara Municipal council and Mbarara central Market Kiosk Owner Assocition over the construction of Mbarara central market is soon getting finished.
Mbarara municipal council told the traders in central market that they will be evicted to independence park to allow the government construct the modern Art of market which is going to be constructed under the markets and Agriculture Infrastructure Improvement Programme (MATIP) phase two.
This development didn’t go well with some traders who lie under Mbarara Central Market Kiosk Owners Association who claim that they are the right owner of the market.
They traders who are being led by Night Karungi Mpirirwe who is their chairperson say that the council obtained land tittle of the market by false presence and they took the matter to the court.
The court had put an injunction on the construction of the market but later removed it.
Court allowed council to continue with the construction but the case continued .however, the kiosk owners insisted that whatever case maybe, they were not willing to vacate the premises unless they first get to know who is the rightful owner of the market. However, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi told www.mknewslink.com Reporter that he will use a strong hand to deal with those who are sabotaging the government projects saying that they are aiming at public benefits.
But council told the traders who were willing to vacate the market for construction that they will occupy the independence park by 15th/6/2017 and the construction of the modern market will commence on 1st/7/2017.
The council is now working tooth and nail to complete the temporary market such that by 1st/7/2017, all vendors who are in central market are relocated to the independence park.
