RUKUNGIRI NRM PRIMARIES: MARY PAULA, GEN. JIM MUHWEZI TAKE FLAGS FOR RUBABO, RUJUMBURA COUNTIES

The Former Rujumbura Member of Parliament, Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi and the Rubabo county Member of Parliament Mary Paula Turyahikayo have won their bids to represent Rujumbura and Rubabo Counties in the Parliament of Uganda on the NRM party ticket.
The results were declared on Saturday by the NRM district registrar Jackson Mugarura Kiiza in the exercise that was held at the district council hall.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi gunned his rival, Julius Muhurizi to the party’s flag bearer for the Constituency after polling 27,199 votes in an early victory.
Muhurizi the second with 4,565 Votes, losing with a margin of 22,634 votes. Natuhwera Vanansio Bagateireyo claimed third with 2134 votes and Kamugisha Alex Kanwangari the last with 269 Votes.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi after a land slide victory at the tally noted that his focus now is at general elections to ensure that the constituency seat is retained.
He will now face off with the incumbent Hon. Fred Turyamwheza who claimed victory in the concluded FDC primaries.
On the other side of Rubabo county, the incumbent Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo also defeated her immediate rival David Tushabomwe Ndindirize to the party’s flag bearer for the Constituency after scooping 19,148 votes.
Ndindiriza came second with 13,754 Votes, and Rt. Maj Godfrey Katamba claimed third with 5,315 votes.
The seat had attracted eleven candidates, the highest number of candidates to contest for a seat in the concluded NRM party primary elections.
She will now face off with the FDC’s Namanya Naboth who claimed victory in the concluded FDC primaries.
For district women mps, Midius Natukunda was declared the NRM flag bear after garnering 51,655 votes, Abiine Marysent Ariyo second with 24,531 and lastly Musiimenta Cledonia Bakironda with 1,477 votes.
Natukunda will now face off the incumbent, Hon. Betty Bamukwasa MuzanIira of the FDC party among other contestants.
And for Rukungiri municipality,Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa retained the flag after garnering 5056 votes against Deus Mugarura’s 777 votes and Eng. John fisher for Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat.
Dr. Elisa will now tussle with FDC’s Dr. Tumwiine wallen along Ms Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe who opted to come as independent after losing FDC party primary elections last month.
