‘IT’S OKAY FOR SHEEMA TO HAVE A DIOCESE’—NEW WEST ANKOLE BISHOP

The new bishop of West Ankole Diocese; Rt.Rev.Johnson Twinomujuni has revealed that it’s okay for Sheema district to have its own diocese. He however noted that he has  not received any petition  demanding the diocese.

He says he has so far held meetings with Sheema stakeholders, and they have not presented to him any petition demanding for their own diocese.

Bishop Twinomujuni said this today 19^th of June 2017 in an exclusive interview with the managing editor of www.mknewslink.com news website at Bweranyangi hill in Bushenyi district.

He noted that if the petition comes, it will be subjected to the due process; Diocesan council, synod and sent to the province for the final decision. “The final decision is with the province” Bishop Twinomujuni revealed.

Sheema Christians have been demanding Central Ankole diocese to be curved out of West Ankole diocese.

After the election of the new bishop of West Ankole diocese,Can.Yowas Makaaru from Sheema  told the  media that they welcome the new bishop, meanwhile demanding  for creation of  Central Ankole diocese.

On the issue of tithes, Twinomujuni said some churches in Sheema district have started bringing their tithes to West Ankole diocesan treasurer. He added that he has met with all Sheema stakeholders who pledged their support him rebuild the West Ankole diocese.

Sheema churches have spent about five years without bringing tithes to the mother diocese West ankole. This has crippled the diocese financially because sheema has the biggest number of Christians.

When asked about financial stand of the diocese, the bishop said that he found the diocese with debts and he is perusing files related to financial reports.

On the issue of opening a new University at Katungu Mothers Union center, Twinomujuni said he found the proposal in the office and he will implement it in an appropriate time.

He revealed his plans to convince donors from Oklahoma in USA to resume their donation to education sector.

The donors suspended their donation to the diocese after disagreeing with the former West Ankole diocesan Bishop; Rt.Rev.Mwesigwa Yona Katoneene ten years ago. The same donors were supporting mainly health and education.
