RUKUNGIRI DISTRICT GETS NEW SERVICE COMMISSION

Rukungiri district service commission has finally been constituted following the expiration of the contracts of some members that expired 7 months back.

These whose contracts expired are the commission chairperson Stanley Munabi and Elias Bushabera who both served for 8 years

The new commission members are Cleophas Tiwaitiu as chairperson, and Rwandembo Mugisha, Jackson Baryamwihaho, Beatrice Namara as members.

Their core role is to provide government with competent human resources for effective and efficient public service delivery.

The Rukungiri district Chief Administrative Officer Elisa Byamungu says that the Public Service Commission approved the five members and they have been cleared to start work with immediate effect.

Byamungu adds that the commission has been tasked to clear the backlog of cases that had accumulated in the district that include disciplinary, confirmation of workers, filling vacant posts in public offices.

 Byamungu also called upon the new Commission members to get their strength from the oath they have just taken to address the declining ethical standards, lack of integrity or fighting impunity in the public service.

 Chalres Andrewson Katebire, the Rukungiri district chairperson tasked the commission to review the methodology used while recruiting workers saying they should recruit workers from within the district not from other districts adding that this will streamline service delivery.

 Katebire explained that once workers from within the  district are recruited it will address the problem of absenteeism and late coming than recruiting the ones from other districts who must trek from their home districts every day and work half day thus making it difficult for the people to access them in time.

The new commission members vowed to serve the district diligently but residents warned them against soliciting bribes.  They also tasked them to work as an independent organ and recruit on capability and by merit.
