POLICE HUNT FOR BODA BODA RIDER WHO KNOCKED MBARARA DPC AS FDC’S AMURIAT CAMPAIGNED

Police in Mbarara are hunting for the Boda boda rider who reportedly knocked down Mbarara District Police Commander SP John Rutangira on Wednesday as he attempted to block the movement of the FDC’S Presidential hopeful Patrick Amuriat Oboi
According to Rwizi Region Police mouthpiece ASP Samson Kasasira, the rider had gone into hidding but they will charge him with Careless driving hence causing an accident under the TRSA Mbarara Central Police Station TSD10/3/12/2020.
Kasasira noted that Amuriat started his campaign trail in Rwizi Region from Ntungamo district on December, 1st, 2020 where he had three rallies that is In Rwahi,Rwashameire and Kyamate in company of Rtd.Col.Kiiza Besigye.
He added that Amuriat headed to Rwampara district where he was not allowed to campaign since he arrived past campaigning time
On 2nd.December Amuriat continued to Isingiro district as he was supposed to hold rallies in Kajaho,Endizi, Isingiro T/C ,Kaberebere Town Council which was successfully held, Kasasira noted
Kasasira noted that Mbarara was supposed to be his final destination of the day but Security operatives had earlier guided his campaign team and agreed on which routes to be used while accessing the city, which was Nyamitanga,Ruti, through Mbarara bypass to Buffalo roundabout then to Kakyeka stadium where his first rally was to be held before he continued to Bwizibwera in Kashari Mbarara district
“H defied these orders and opted to use porous routes from Isingiro district through Buremba road in Kakoba division where he was intercepted at Bishop Stuart around 0400Pm with intentions to go through Mbarara business city center
“But as security we tried to engage him, he jumped out of his car onto a Boda boda that was part of his campaign convoy “Kasasira can be quoted
He further noted that in the process of stopping them a scuffle erupted and a motorcycle Reg.No UEX 650D that had Amuriat knocked the DPC SP Rutangira John on ground though he never sustained serious injuries
Police however on Tuesday had arrested Amuriat’s driver Nasuru Basarirwa 36years,a resident of Natete in Kampala and charged him with disobedience of lawful orders but he was later released on police bond on Wednesday
ASP Kasasira noted that Amuriat was also charged with disobedience of lawful orders VIDE Mbarara CRB1586 .
