POLICE IMPOUND OVER 150 MOTORCYCLES IN RUKUNGIRI NEW YEAR OPERATION

Police have impounded over 150 motorcycles and arrested some of their riders in Rukungiri district for failing to respect curfew.
Henry Kintu the Rukungiri District Police Commander says most of the motorcycles were impounded in trading centers of Kasoroza Kahoko Junction stage all in Nyakagyeme sub- county, Rwerere in Rwerere town council, Bugangari in Bugangari sub- county, Buyanja in Buyanja town council among other areas.
According to Kintu, the operation follows continued violation of Covid-19 preventive measures by Boda boda riders saying that most of them no longer respect curfew and they even raid up to mid night.
“The Ministry of Health together with the president of Uganda YK Museveni allowed boda boda raiders to carry passengers but not beyond 7:00 pm,” Kintu said.
Kintu added that the arrested boda boda riders are detained at various police stations under Rukungiri central Police area.
He explains that the suspects will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing acts likely to spread infectious disease.
In the same operation 78 people were also arrested for violating covid-19 preventive measures.
Currently, motorcyclists are restricted to do their business not beyond 7:00pm but they can transport passengers under emergency circumstances after 7:00pm.
