Over 100 P7 pupils from 12 sub counties of Kabale have dropped out of the school prior to PLE exams according to acting District Education Officer Moses Tumwijukye Bwegye
While speaking to our reporter today in his office, Bwengye said 3431 P7 candidates had initially reported to school before lockdown but only 3328 reported back to their respective schools when the government reopened for candidates.
These were recorded from sub counties of Kaharo, Kyanamira, Maziba, Buhara, Kitumba, Katuna town council, Kibuga town council, Rubaya, Ryakarimira town council, Kahugye, Butanda and Kamuganguzi.
Bwenye said that girls make a big percentage of those who dropped out.
He attributed high drop out of girls to early marriages, teenage pregnancies and some had already gone to work as house girls.
Bwengye further urged parents and stakeholders to bring children back and even those who are pregnant should be accepted in schools.
