TWO DROWNED IN KISORO BOAT ACCIDENT, BODIES YET TO BE RETRIEVED

A boat accident on Lake Kayumbu Murora Sub county Kisoro district has claimed two lives.

The deceased have been identified as Gasper Yumvirusaba 34, Richard Niyigaba 24 all residents of Maregamo village, Chibumba parish Murora Sub county in Kisoro District.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the duo drowned in the lake on Tuesday April 6th 2021 at around 16:30pm as they left Gisha Island to cultivate.

The boat had a crew of four by the time of the accident and two others were rescued before they died, according to the Police Mouthpiece.

“They were four in number, two were rescued and the two victims are still missing. Efforts to get them recovered and retrieved are being made by local divers and police” Maate said in a statement.

A case of death by drowning has since been registered at Murora Police Post in reference number SD 06/06/04/2021
