RENOWNED MONEY LENDER LYNCHED OVER ALLEGED THEFT IN RUBANDA

Police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which a renowned money lender was lynched by mob after he was allegedly found breaking into hardware last night night.
The deceased has been identified as Godfrey Biryabarema 37 year resident of Hamurwa cell in Hamurwa town council in Rubanda district.
It’s alleged that the deceased was seen in the night by one Ambrose breaking into the store of Barangirana Stanley where he removed iron bars and iron sheets.
The witness Ambrose made an alarm which attracted residents that lynched him on spot.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that Biryabarema Godfrey also known as Money Lender was in the wee hours of Sunday April 11th 2021 found breaking into a store of Bangirana Stanley in Hamurwa Cell, Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda District.
The Police was alerted but by the time they arrived at the scene of crime led by Hamurwa Police Station OC CID Iragaba, the Biryabarema was already dead.
Maate said that post mortem was carried out at the scene and the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
He however condemned the mob for taking the laws into their hands and said that the Police are hunting for those who participated in the killing.
The case of murder by mob was registered at Rubanda Police Station under reference number CRB 165/2021 to help in investigations.
