RUKUNGIRI TEENAGER ARRESTED OVER MURDER BY ASSAULT

Police in Rukungiri District have in custody an 18 year old man on allegations of murder by assault.

The suspect is Paskal Ahereza a resident of Kabeshekyere cell, Rwengiri Parish in Ruhinda sub-county, Rukungiri District.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, on 14th April 2021 at around 10PM at Rugando trading centre in Karerema cell, Nyabitete parish in Bugangari Sub-county, the deceased Asiimwe Weren 40, a resident of Karerema cell was with his wife and another relative Joan Ainembabazi taking booze.

They thereafter decided to leave the trading center and on their way home, the suspect who was also in the same trading center followed them up with an intention of raping Ainembabazi.

Maate adds that Weren intervened to defend the relative (Ainembabazi) and in the process the suspect bitterly assaulted him.

After the exchange, everybody went home but on the following day, Weren developed severe stomachache and was rushed to Kalori Lwanga Hospital Nyakibare hospital for treatment.

The Kigezi Police PRO adds that when the pain persisted, the family members reported the matter to Bugangari police post on April 20th 2021 and inquiries were initiated.

Asiimwe then died on Tuesday April 27th 2021 at around 2PM. Since the suspect was already in custody, the Police visited the scene, did postmortem and handed the body over to relatives for burial as inquiries take course at Rukungiri Central Police station under reference number CRB 791/2021
