In Kisoro—
Four primary schools from Kisoro have been closed and more than 10 teachers arrested for defying government guidelines on reopening of schools in phases.
The schools were closed yesterday during an inspection carried out by education department together with security personnel.
Schools that were closed include; St Lawrence pre and primary from Nyakinama Sub County, Blessed future p/s, Victorious pre and primary school from Nyarubuye sub county and Bunagana pride pre and primary school from Bunagana town council.
Kisoro district inspector of schools, Emmanuel Mbonyebyombi revealed that the four schools were closed down and their certificates of compliance withdrawn until government opens classes for all learners.
The schools were found teaching pupils from baby class to p.3 which violets government guidelines on opening for classes in phases.
Mbonyebyombi advised pupils whose schools have been closed to join government schools near them.
The Kisoro police OCIID, Naturinda Cleophas confirmed the arrest of the teachers but declined to divulge details saying they are hunting for others who are still at large.
