HOIMA WEST MP ELECT WANTS LEADERS TO SENSITIZE PUBLIC ON PARISH MODEL PROGRAM

Parliament has approved the implementation of the Parish Development Model.
The model will start operation in a phased approach with preliminary activities for the establishment of the necessary support structures and systems.
Key among the activities is the recruitment of Parish Chiefs, establishment and training of Parish Development Committees, set up of the Community Information System (CIS) and mobilization of the masses at national and local government level.
Meanwhile, the Hoima West MP Elect Dr. Joseph Ruyonga has called on residents to embrace the upcoming Parish Model Program on farming that has been introduced by the government.
The Program would be effective starting with the next fiscal year 2021/2022 has been allocated sh200 billion for the first phase because of shortage of funds.
The initiative is the latest of government attempts to lift the nearly 68 percent of households from subsistence economy to commercial production to reduce poverty.
Ruyonga says if well embraced it can benefit the local person compared to the previous projects and asked fellow leaders to sensitize the public about it.
Some of the activities to be undertaken include preparing parishes to receive the funds, recruit chiefs, operationalize the Parish Development Committees, who will be in-charge of the funds, and establish the SACCOS and other activities.
