ISINGIRO POLICE OFFICER SHOOTS SUSPECT DEAD OVER RESISTANCE TO ARREST

Police in Rwizi region have in custody their police Constable for allegedly shooting a suspect in Isingiro district.
According to Rwizi police mouthpiece ASP Samson Kasasira, Special Police Constable Alosyious Kakooza 39 years attached to Ngarama Police station on 8th July 2021 shot Arnold Atwembeire 25 years a resident of Kiguli village, Ngarama parish, Ngarama subcounty in Isingiro district.
Kasasira told www.mknewslink.com that the SPC Kakooza had gone to arrest Arnold after his brother Lauben Mujuni reported a case of threatening violence and assault against him.
It’s alleged that Arnold however moved out of the house armed with two pangas threatening to kill his brother which prompted Special Police Constable Alosyious Kakooza to open fire on the deceased.
Kasasira said Arnold sustained bullet wounds and within a range of close to one kilometer, he collapsed and died on the way as he was being rushed to the hospital.
The scene of the crime was visited by Isingiro district CID D/ASP Mbabazi Zakaria, recorded statements from eyewitnesses, recovering cartridges and the gun rifle number UG POL 801V 7119-12591 with 16 rounds of ammunitions
The body of the deceased was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem as inquiries into the matter are still in initial stages.
