POLICE STATEMENT ON KAMPALA BOMB EXPOSITIONS: 6 CONFIRMED DEAD, 33 INJURED
In Kampala—
6 people including 3 suicide attackers have been confirmed dead while, 33 others were injured in Kampala twin bomb expositions.
The two attacks took place today 16.11.2021 at Central Police Station, in Kampala and Raja Chambers and Jubilee Insurance Building along the Parliament Avenue at 10.03am and 10.06am respectively.
According to statement released by Fred Enanga the police spokesperson, male adult putting on a black jacket, and carrying a back pack, detonated himself near Kampala central police station.
He died instantly and the spillover effect caused additional injuries to police officers and other civilians who were within a radius of 30 metres.
Enanga added that two other people have been confirmed dead, while 17 sustained very critical injuries.
Another bomb blast occurred within three minutes at Raja Chambers and Jubilee Insurance Building along the Parliament Avenue.
Enanga revealed that two suicide bombers in this attack were clearly captured on motorcycles, disguising as bodaboda riders before they detonated the bombs they were carrying on themselves which killed them instantly.
Both scenes have been cordoned off by our Joint Counter-terror task teams, victims rushed to Mulago national hospital though 5 of the victims are critically injured.
The Police PRO attributed the attacks to the ADF linked radicalized groups, whom he said still have a desire to carry out lethal attacks, on soft targets, with suicide attackers and improvised explosive devices.
He encouraged businesses and the public to voluntarily report suspicious activities, such as buying large amounts of chemicals and materials that can be used to build bombs.
