MASINDI COUNCILORS HOLD MEETINGS UNDER TREE

Councilors of Central division in Masindi Municipality, Masindi
district hold their council meetings under a jack fruit tree due to lack of space.
Central division was shifted when Masindi town council was elevated into a Municipality in 2011.
Currently Central division offices are being housed in the community hall on the King’s land in Kiahande cell in central division Masindi municipality.
Mugume Godfrey, the councilor representing Nyangahya ward says that they operate in an open place under the Jack fruit tree noting that whenever the rain come while the council meeting is ongoing it is always interrupted.
He adds that the only building they have is the community hall which houses the offices of the technocrats and the division chairperson.
Good Man B Farouk, also a councilor from civic ward explains that it is ridiculous to see the whole council meeting being held under tree arguing that even in modern villages funeral meetings are held in decent places.
Isaac Bongomin, the councilor representing Kijura ward, noted that
when Masindi town council was elevated to a municipality government gave in money as a startup fund but nothing was given to central division to help them start and yet it is the municipal council which shifted them.
Jonathan Atuhuura; the speaker central division said that it is now
more than a year councilors sitting under the tree ,adding that
councilors should be patient because their efforts are made to see that councilors sit in a good place.
Mandela Fredrick, the chairperson LC 3 central division says that at the moment they have acquired land and a title in Masindi town noting that he has even lobbed for the money from the ministry of finance which will help start up the construction of the new offices and the chambers.
