GOV’T TO RESETTLE BULIISA FLOOD VICTIMS

Government of Uganda in preparations to resettle the people in Buliisa district who were affected by the increasing Lake Albert water.
This was revealed by Hon. Hillary Onek the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees while speaking to our reporter over the weekend.
Onek revealed that he has already directed the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to carry out a survey, profile data of people affected by floods and come up with a comprehensive report.
He explained that all plans are on to have flood affected people to be resettled. ”All plans are being done to ensure the flood affected victims are resettled.”
Last year, when Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja the Prime Minister of Uganda visited the flood victims in Buliisa, she directed for their resettlement.
Hon. Allan Atugonza the Member of Parliament Buliisa County told our reporter this afternoon that they have been lobbying for the resettlement of the flood victims.
He also stressed that though the resettlement process has been delayed, there is hope for the flood victims to be resettled.
The politician asserted that they already have data of the flood affected victims noting that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development shouldn’t delay to resettle the victims.
”Our people have suffered enough, they need to be resettled as soon as possible, so there is no need for the delay because we have the data of affected victims.”
Over 3,500 households in Buliisa district were displaced by increasing Lake Albert water between 2020 and 2021. This has forced many people, mostly fishermen, to migrate to the nearest areas like Biiso, Hoima, Nebbi and others.
