Residents of Kinkizi West constituency in Kanungu District yesterday received an Ambulance from Ministry of Health to boost health service delivery in the area.
Health Minister Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng handed over Ambulance Registration Number UG 7288 to Kinkizi West Member of Parliament Hon James Ruggi Kaberuka at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Wandegeya Kampala.
The Ambulance was pledged by Minister Aceng in 2019 when she made an on-spot visit to all health facilities in Kanungu District and found out that most places like Mpungu Sub County were hard to reach areas that needed ambulance services.
According to the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Kenneth Akiiri, the Ambulance will be facilitated under the National Ambulance Fleet and Primary Health Care (PHC) grants, RBF referral funds, and locally raised revenue to run Ambulance services.
While receiving the Ambulance, Hon Kaberuka said that he was extremely thankful to the Minister for fulfilling the pledge and thanked God for making it possible.
Hon Kaberuka said that although there were several needs raised during the Ministers visit in 2019, the Ambulance was top on the list to help in transportation of expectant mothers from hard-to-reach areas like Mpungu Sub- County.
The Ambulance is the first of its kind in Kanungu District and is fitted with all the 39 appliances that can safely offer referral services of the needy patients.
Hon Kaberuka said that he will work closely with other District leaders to ensure that the Ambulance is put to its proper use and the equipment therein is well protected from vandalism.
