SERVICE PROVIDERS BLAMED FOR DELAYED ROADWORKS

The minister of state for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Mario Obiga Kania has blamed service providers for the delay in construction of Roads in the country. He says services providers such as Water,UMEME and telecommunication companies delay to shift their equipment from road sites.
Hon. Kania made the remarks on Wednesday as he officiated at the ground breaking ceremony of five Mbarara city Roads and beautification of Rwebikoona market parking yard.
The minister however says as a remedy, government is considering a move to formulate a policy which will deter service providers from demanding a charge fee from contractors before shifting their equipment from road sites.
The road works with a millage of 3.94KM include Lower Circular Road(0.8km), Kyamugorani road(2.02km), Municipal Access Road(0.1km),Ruhara Road(0.47Km), Mosque Road(0.55Km) and these will be undertaken by M/S Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO) and another Local contractor KWED Construction company will beautify Rwebikoona Market parking yard both projects at a cost of UGX. 20 billion for a period of one Year.
Mr.Assy Abirebe the Mbarara city clerk appreciated USMID projects as it has contributed much to the development of infrastructure in the City .He said during USMID Phase I the then Mbarara municipality had 5.2KM of road rehabilitated
Gumisiriza Kyabwisho the division mayor Mbarara city North applauded the development as it will foster development in the city.
The mayor Mbarara City Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi appreciated the Commissioning but decried lack of bridges in Mbarara city. Kakyebezi cited Katete Bridge which connects Nyamitanga and Mbarara city which he said needs serious intervention by ministry of works before residents drown in River Rwizi.
