In Rubanda—-
Councilors of Ikumba Sub County are up in arms with their sub county Chief Diana Ashemeza and her Cashier Elly Tumwesigye accusing them of leasing out Bishayu Land at Kitahurira village, Kashasha parish Ikumba sub county Rubanda District as approved by council last year but failed to put the money to proper use.
In July 2021, the council resolved to lease the 6 acres of land at Bishayu which was to be effective in July 2022.
The land was leased out to Layer Asiimwe at a total of 500,000shs cash and the money was to renovate the offices of the sub county chairman, but up to now, nothing has been done.
According to the aggrieved councilors, Layer Asiimwe paid for the land but up to now, she has never been granted access to the land for use yet the previous caretaker Semu Rutakundira has stopped using it.
Speaking to our reporter, the aggrieved councilors said that they are worried that Asiimwe might sue the sub county for not using the land despite clearing to zero balance.
The chairperson LCIII Bazirake Wence and Emanuel Kabira the speaker of Ikumba Sub County said that they don’t know what the money from the leased land was used for.
They added that they have been with idle money for over one year yet the chairman’s office has not been worked on.
In her defence, Ashemeza Diana the Ikumba sub county chief said that the sub county did not have enough evidence to vacate Semu Rutakundira who is currently using the land.
Ashemeza said that Rutakundira had already planted a new season. She however pledged to work on the issue starting next week
