The physical verification exercise team accessing how the lockups were distributed to vendors at Kabale central market has today discovered most lock ups, locked with padlocks and not operating.
The team was instituted by the minister of local government this year in January Raphael Magyezi while meeting a section of aggrieved vendors at Kabale municipal council hall, to capture memorandum of understanding, national identity card and allocation slip of every vendor in the market.
Kabale District Deputy RDC Bakaki Ronald together with a team from local government has today ordered six vendors in the produce section to make a police statement after they were found without documents of ownership of lockups in Kabale Central Market.
Among them are Orimwikyirize Esau Lockup No A2-056, Kaguriri Vincent No A1_025, Byansi Robert lockup No Al_030, Kato John, Bisamunyu Medard No A1_067 and Mbonigaba John chairperson of Abashubuzi Tukore group (7Members) who admitted to have grabbed the lock up No Al _095 without any documents.
Addressing the journalists after the verification exercises Ronald Bakaki the DRDC said that the physical Verification exercise is going to take two days to confirm whether the vendors are the rightful owners of the lockups.
He added that some produce vendors who confessed that they had just grabbed the lockups were sent to Kabale Central police station to make statements.
Bakaki said that some of them were found without enough documents while others lockups were found closed despite the Market officially given to the vendors.
He added that the guidelines give the vendors a grace period of two months to have occupied the lockups and those whose lockups shall be found unoccupied after cross checking and shall be handed over to Kabale Municipal Authorities for flesh distribution.
However, a number of lockups owners had half of the documents missing ranging from occupational permits, MOU among others.
