Kisoro Hill primary school is at a verge of losing its UNEB Examination center number and teachers due to low learner enrolment recorded since last year.
The Kisoro Municipal acting principal education officer, Sabiti Mugema Emmanuel, revealed this yesterday on 6th march 2023.
Every primary school under the ministry of Education in Uganda requires a minimum of 25 candidates in primary seven classes to be given a UNEB examination center number.
While a school to be given eight teachers must have at least 432 pupils in school.
According to Mugema, Kisoro hill primary school only has a total enrolment of 120 pupils while P.7 Class currently has less than the required number of 25 pupils, a worry that the school is likely to lose both teachers and UNEB center number.
He noted that the school has been relaying on Read primary school that has been registering its pupils at Kisoro hill primary school.
Mugema asked the school’s founding body, Muslim community, to bring their children to Kisoro hill primary school in order to save the situation.
He added that a delegation of municipal authorities recently visited the school to find how to fix the problems at hand but the school’s management committee members did not fully turn up.
He also revealed that the Kisoro RDC has ordered parents, teachers to meet for both parties to express their concerns.
Meanwhile, Mugema Sabiti says that performances of the school especially at UNEB have been improving slowly, with the school having got three pupils in second grade last year.
According to Mugema, a few loopholes need to be curbed, especially half day studies, lack of lunch at school, absenteeism and administration to ensure that there are better performances that will attract more parents to send children to this school.
