In Kabarole—
Residents of Kinyamahamba village, Burungu zone ,Karambi sub county Kabarole district are calling for the chairperson of land probe commission, Justice Catherine Bamugemerire to come to their rescue after their land lord threatening to evict them from the land where they claim to have lived for decades.
The disgruntled residents told the resident district commissioner Kabarole Steven Asiimwe in a meeting, that their land lord Kamanyire Boniface hailing from Kyenjojo district last week threatened to evict them from his land claiming that he wants to sell it off.
The residents also explained that Kamanyire deny them chances to sell their land, or even to constructpermanent houses among other activities.
They however said that for about 50 years Kamanyire has been an absentee land lord which failed them to pay the annual revenue of 5,000 shillings.
In response, the RDC urged the residents to register themselves and forward their names to his office since Kamanyire failed to turn up for a meeting he had been invited to.
He further warned any police officer or court bailiffs who will be used to evict the people without court order and without his knowledge will be dealt with.
Peter Alinda the Kabarole district lands officer told residents that no one is entitled to evict a tenant on land where he or she has spent more than 12 years.
He however noted that if the land lord refuses the revenue the residents should take the revenue to court or at the sub county headquarters.
