RUKUNGIRI POLICE HUNTING FOR TRUCK DRIVER OVER CLAIMING PEDESTRIAN LIFE

Police in Rukungiri district are currently conducting an investigation into an incident involving a driver of a Beiben Truck owned by China Henan International Cooperation (CHICO) Road Construction Company.
The driver is accused of causing the death of a pedestrian and fleeing the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Turinawe Alex, aged 35, residing in Kakirago cell 1, Bugangari Sub County in Rukungiri District.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi Police, the incident occurred on Monday at approximately 2pm in Kikirago village along the Rukungiri-Kanungu Road.
The Beiben Truck with the registration number UBJ 090F, belonging to CHICO Road Construction Company, was carrying road materials from the construction site towards Rukungiri when it collided with the pedestrian who was descending the hill, intending to cross the road.
The impact was fatal, resulting in the immediate death of the pedestrian.
PC Owing Deo and his team visited the scene of the accident, prepared a sketch plan, and the body of the deceased was subsequently transported to Rwakabengo hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Later, the body was handed over to the deceased’s relatives for burial.
ASP Elly Maate further stated that the police are currently making efforts to locate the whereabouts of the truck driver who fled the scene and is currently at large.
The incident has been registered as a fatal accident at Rukungiri Police Station, filed under the reference number TAR 58/2023.
The police are actively conducting inquiries into the matter
