TRAGIC HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE OF KABALE UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Police in Kabale District are currently on the hunt for an unidentified driver who fatally struck a Kabale University student along the Kabale Katuna road in Kitumba.
The victim, identified as Arinda Joab a 23-year-old, resided in Nyakambu cell, southern division of Kabale District.
Arinda, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business, had been completing his internship at Kitumba Farm. Although his permanent residence was in Kyasano village, Butuzo parish, Kamuganguzi sub-county.
According to reports, Arinda was crossing the road after leaving Datics farm, located on the left side when facing Katuna direction, when he was struck by a speeding grey Toyota Premio with the registration number UAY 967K. The vehicle was being driven by an unknown individual traveling from Katuna to Kabale.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, addressed journalists today, stating that the accident occurred on the 12th of June, 2023, around 2:30 p.m. at Kitumba along the Kabale Katuna road.
ASP Maate explained that the cause of the accident has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.
After the incident, the victim was immediately rushed to Rushoroza Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The scene was examined by ASP Baguma OC, the traffic officer in Kabale, and his team, and the body was subsequently transferred to Kabale Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.
The police spokesperson confirmed that a case of hit-and-run fatal accident has been registered at Kabale District police station under reference number TAR 64/2023.
The authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the driver responsible for this tragic incident.
