The Prime Minister of Uganda has called for conservation of nature to minimize climate change effects and safeguard homes of tourist attractions that fetch income to the country.
Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja says Uganda’s tourism is nature based and therefore all efforts should be geared towards conserving the environment and encouraging sustainable use of the country’s resources.
Nabbanja says the world is experiencing harsh climate change effects such as floods and landslides causing loss of lives and property and this is blamed on human effects.
Human effects according to the prime minister have caused loss of wetlands and forests and now this has resulted in loss of people in Mbale, Kasese, Kisoro and flooding at L Albert due to climate change effects.
Tom Butime, the tourism minister, called for stable security and proper general hygiene to give confidence to a conducive environment for the tourists.
Meanwhile Pius Wakabi, though the world Tourism Day is being celebrated, there is a need to conserve the environment especially the natural forests like Bugoma forests.
Today Uganda joined the rest of the World to celebrate World Tourism Day with the national celebrations held in Hoima City
Figures show Ugandans 1.5 million tourists before COVID 19 in 2019. The sector largely hit by COVID-19 received over 800,000 tourists last year.
