WHO WAS LATE HAJJI ADAM BUHANGWA, A PROMINENT ELDER IN ANKOLE?

Hajji Adam Buhangwa was born in mid June 1947. He was blessed with 21 children. By the time of his death he was survived by 17 (10 daughters and 7 sons).
His level of education was Junior 1.
He worked with the British in the current Igara Tea Factory as a young man before he went on to become a business man. He later started a mixed farm on a piece of land he had inherited from his parents.

He was the first chairman of Kanyamurera Madarast Islamic Primary School. He also represented dairy farmers from greater Ankole in the collapsed Dairy Cooperation. He equally represented Ugandan dairy farmers in Malawi when he presented a paper “The feasibility of health insurance to dairy farmers under dairy cooperative societies”.

At the time of his death, he was councilor and secretary for Production at the Kizinda-Kigoma town council in Bushenyi district
Equally at the time of his death, he was planning to start an Islamic vocational school. This was to be a moslem founded vocational school that would cater for technical training of the youth in greater Ankole as well as take them through Islamic theological training.
Hajji Adam Buhangwa died of cancer at Kampala international university teaching hospital in Ishaka. He was buried at his home in Kigoma Bushenyi district recently.
Dignitaries including His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda sent in condolence messages.
Uganda’s deputy head of mission to the European union and Benelux countries headquartered in Brussels Belgium Amb. Franklin Katungwe also sent in his condolence message. In the message he hailed Late Hajji Buhangwa among others for spearheading the formation of Bushenyi district elders forum which is uniting elders in the district.
Politicians both local, national and international sent in messages and some attended the burial in Kigoma Bushenyi district.
