7 MASINDI MUNICIPALITY STAFF ARRESTED FOR POURING SALT IN GRADER

Police in Masindi is holding seven people from the works department at Masindi municipality after it was discovered that salt had been poured in Masindi municipality grader engine.
The equipment registration number UAJ932X is valued at sh800M and it’s key in improving the road network in the municipality.
A driver who wouldn’t be readily named by press time said that he worked during the weekend and parked the equipment without any issue.
According to Allan Hakiza the Albertine region police spokesperson, they swung into action after getting intelligence led information and arrested the suspected staff members.
The arrested whose identities have been concealed include the machine operators and the security guards at Masindi municipality.
“They are currently detained at Masindi central police station as investigations continue. The motive is not yet understood but after investigations they will be charged with vandalisation,” he said.
Ronald Businge Kyomuhendo, the mayor Masindi municipality confirmed the incident explaining he got information today morning from the staff members after coming to office.
“I went to cross check and discovered that it was true. I am disappointed with this incident because this grader is worse sh800M and it’s crucial in improving our roads. The fortunate part of it is that the drivers had not yet started the engine,” he added.
Kyomuhendo further explained that this could have happened due to the intrigues among the staff members in the works department.
“We also have a problem of laxity among among our security systems because we have been losing many property. We are intending to install CCTV cameras to avoid such bad acts.
Simon Peter Ochiti, the Officer in charge criminal investigations department at Masindi central police station asked the staff at Masindi municipality to volunteer information such that the culprits are brought to book.
“We have taken the samples for examination to help us in doing our investigations. We are not here to witch-hunt but to get the facts, ” Ochiti who had led the detectives explained while at the scene.
Sanon Dhaala, the deputy Resident District Commissioner said he was also disappointed with the act arguing that replacing such an equipment won’t be easy at all.
“If you have a disagreement why do you bring in your flights. Such acts tarnish the image of government. We can’t accept to work like this. We need to be patriotic. I am wondering why someone could do this. I am seeing even the graders here not being maintained well and what surprises me they prefer hiring than repairing,” he added.
